Dublin California, a suburb of San Francisco, gave preliminary approval last week to an ordinance declaring secondhand tobacco smoke a public nuisance, a move designed to make it easier for residents to take neighbors who puff with impunity to court.

By adding second hand smoke to the list of items that are considered a public nuisance, such as rodents, junk cars, and weeds, it provides those individuals who are ‘affected’ by it a means of suing the smoker - up to the tune of $7500.00.

Dublin Councilwoman Kasie Hildenbrand said, “We have to legislate civility at times.”

What the Fuck are You Thinking Kasie!  What’s next?  Introducing legislation allowing nuisance lawsuits against the issuers of second hand FARTS?  Good God, there would be a deluge of lawsuits in the courts given the litigious nature of Americans.

Kill this thing at the source, not by tying up local courts with bullshit public nuisance lawsuits and potentially putting financial strain on individuals who can hardly afford to buy the cigarettes in the first place.  Why don’t you, the state of Utah and those other politically correct busy-bodies introducing this type of legislation stop picking on the little guy and go after the big prize?  BAN TOBACCO PRODUCTS - that will stop the whole smoking, stress on health care issue.

I’ll tell you why you won’t, because of the tremendous amount of money brought in to every level of government by these same tobacco companies through taxes, levies and, dare I say it, payoffs?

Leave the little folk alone. Instead of trying to legislate civility why don’t you and your self-righteous crew try and introduce stronger legislation against gun violence, drugs and other violent crimes. DO SOME REAL WORK on behalf of your constituents! (By the way, this goes for Canadian politicians as well. Quit fucking with the little guy and just do the right thing!)
